Bike Share in cities are very common- but Hangzhou takes it very seriously. China has an old bicycle tradition, but that got changed in recent history. A few decades ago the focus went to cars. This wasn’t possible to continue with China’s terrible traffic problems and bike sharing is solving a part of the problem. Solving many issues in one: traffic, environmental, the need for exercise.
They have over 2 000 stations and over 50 000 bicycles. Bikes are free for the first hour and then you pay for additional hours. Most people get a bike after they have taken a bus and bike to where they are going and park the bike at the nearest station. See the video that explains the system. They are planing major expansion to 175 000 bicycles to year 2020.
